A Puppy Who Needed More Than a Kennel
Piggy’s face was the kind people noticed right away.
With his soft features, floppy ears, and little piglet-like look, he seemed almost impossible not to love. But behind that adorable face was a puppy in pain, trapped in a shelter kennel while his skin condition grew worse.
He had not ended up there because he was unwanted from the start. His owner was facing serious health struggles and could no longer care for him, so Piggy was surrendered to a shelter in Charlotte, North Carolina.
It was meant to be a safer place.
But for a sick puppy who needed special attention, the shelter environment was not enough.
Chrissy Saw What Others Might Have Missed
Chrissy Elder often visited the shelter, hoping to help animals who needed someone to notice them.
In July 2022, she saw Piggy.
At first, his sweet face stood out. Then she saw the suffering beneath it. His skin was irritated, painful, and worsening inside the kennel. He needed treatment, comfort, and someone willing to act before his condition stole even more of his strength.
Chrissy could not leave him there.
She knew Piggy was not just a cute puppy with an unusual look.
He was hurting.

A Painful Diagnosis and a New Name
Chrissy took Piggy to the vet, where he was diagnosed with a demodex infection, a skin condition that required proper treatment and consistent care.
The little dog was soon renamed Piggy because of his adorable piglet-like features, but his new name also marked the beginning of a different life. He was no longer just another sick puppy waiting in a kennel.
He was seen.
He was treated.
He was given a chance.
Forgotten, Now Family Rescue placed Piggy in a foster home, where his healing could truly begin.

Healing Took Time, Care, and Gentle Hands
Piggy’s recovery was not instant.
He needed medicated baths twice a week, close attention, and patient care. His skin had to heal slowly. His body needed time. His heart needed safety.
But with each passing week, the change became visible.
Fur began growing back on his body, head, and legs. His eyes looked brighter. His energy returned. The puppy who had once seemed uncomfortable and defeated began to act like the joyful little dog he was always meant to be.
The Sad Puppy Became Playful Again
As Piggy healed, his personality began to shine.
He became playful, affectionate, and full of life. He greeted people with excitement, soaked up attention, and gave love freely, as if he had been waiting for the chance to show who he really was.
His piglet-like face had made him memorable.
But his heart made him unforgettable.
The more he healed, the clearer it became: Piggy had never needed pity. He needed care, patience, and a family who would love him through the hard parts.
The Home He Deserved Finally Came
By September, Piggy’s life changed again.
A kind woman reached out to the rescue, ready to give him a permanent home. After everything he had endured — the shelter kennel, the painful skin condition, the uncertainty — Piggy finally found someone who wanted him not because he was perfect, but because he was Piggy.
Now he lives with love, safety, and the care he always deserved.

Piggy Was Always Worth Saving
Piggy’s story is painful because a puppy with such a sweet face still had to suffer before help reached him.
But it is also a reminder of what one person can do.
Chrissy noticed him. The rescue cared for him. A foster home helped him heal. A new family chose him.
The puppy once hurting in a shelter kennel became a beloved dog with a future.
And every bit of his transformation proves that even the most fragile animals can bloom when someone finally looks past the pain and decides they are worth saving.
