For one-year-old Crescent Roll, May 7 was not just another day.
It was a chance to leave the shelter behind, even for a little while, and show the world who she really is.
Crescent Roll spent the day at the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney after leaving Colonial Heights Animal Control for a special outing. The goal was simple but meaningful: give this sweet shelter dog a break from kennel life and help her be seen by people who might fall in love with her.
And Crescent Roll made sure no one missed her.
The moment she arrived, she was full of joy. She ran from room to room, greeting everyone as if she had been waiting her whole life for a day like this. Every person was a new friend. Every office was a new adventure. Every kind voice was another reason to wag her tail.
Once she knew everyone had met her, Crescent Roll settled down and became the sweetest office guest.
She had no accidents. She caused no trouble. She was not even interested in toys.
All she wanted was love.
Away from the noise and stress of the shelter, with no other dogs competing for attention, Crescent Roll finally had the space to relax. She napped, daydreamed, soaked up affection, and showed everyone what a wonderful companion she could be.
It was only one day.
But for Crescent Roll, it looked like a glimpse of the life she has been waiting for.
A home where she can rest.
People who will love her.
Soft places to nap.
And a future that does not end with her going back to a kennel.
Crescent Roll is said to be great with children and does well with dogs her own size. She may be a little too interested in smaller dogs, so a meet-and-greet would be needed for any resident dogs.
She has been spayed, received her rabies vaccine, and is ready to go home.
Now all she needs is someone to see her the way that office did — not just as a shelter dog, but as a loving girl with so much joy to give.
Crescent Roll had the best day away from the shelter.
Now she is waiting for the even better day when someone finally says, “You’re coming home with me.”
