Jackson has grown up behind shelter walls.
When he first arrived at The City of Mobile Animal Services, he was just a newborn puppy — tiny, innocent, and full of hope for the life ahead of him.
But one day became one week.
One week became one month.
And now, 365 days later, Jackson is still waiting.
The first photo shows him when he first came to the shelter. The second photo shows him now. He is older, bigger, and still just as deserving of love. But the hardest part is seeing how much time has passed while his world has stayed almost the same.
A cement kennel should never be a dog’s childhood.
Jackson is now two years old, handsome, friendly, and smart. He weighs about 40 pounds and is described as wonderful with dogs, cats, and people. Staff members say he is house trained, and he even gets chances to go on sleepovers with volunteers.
And yet, after all this time, no one has taken him home for good.
The people who care for Jackson say the light has slowly been leaving his eyes. That is what long shelter life can do to a dog. Even the sweetest hearts can begin to wonder why everyone keeps walking past.
Jackson does not need a perfect life.
He just needs a real home.
A soft bed instead of concrete.
A family instead of passing visitors.
A door that opens because someone is happy to see him.
