He had been lying there for almost the whole evening.
On the soft couch, the little dog rested his chin on the cushion, his tiny paws tucked in front of him, his big round eyes shining as he looked toward his owner.
But his owner was still busy looking at the phone.
At first, he only wagged his tail softly.
Then he moved a little closer.
After that, he gently placed his little chin on the edge of the couch and stared as if he wanted to say:
“Can you look at me for just a moment?”
But still, no one noticed.
The phone seemed to have taken all the attention. And he, the cutest little dog in the house, had been forgotten right beside them.
So he began to “pout.”
He did not bark.
He did not make a mess.
He did not walk away.
He simply stayed there quietly, his eyes wide open, looking both sad and offended, as if the whole world had disappointed him just because no one would give him a little more love.
Every now and then, he glanced up at his owner.
That look was full of blame, sadness, and cuteness all at once — the kind of look that could make anyone smile.
Maybe in his little heart, he was thinking:
“I’m right here… Why do you keep looking at that glowing box?”
The little dog did not need a big gift.
He did not need a new toy.
He did not need anything fancy.
He only needed a gentle pat on the head, a small hug, or simply a few minutes of eye contact from the person he loved most.
To humans, that may be just a tiny moment.
But to a dog, it can be the happiest part of the day.
Because dogs are like that.
They can wait all day for us to come home.
They can become overjoyed just from hearing keys at the door.
They can forgive us even when we are busy, tired, or accidentally forget that they are lying right beside us.
But sometimes, they feel hurt too.
They feel lonely.
They “pout” with those big round eyes until our hearts melt.
So if you are sitting next to your dog today, put your phone down for a moment.
Look at them.
Pet them.
Say their name gently.
Because to you, it may only be a few minutes.
But to them, it may be the most beautiful moment of the day.
