That afternoon, Archie simply followed his owner up to the rooftop like he always did. It was a small two-story house with a few plant pots, clotheslines, and a low concrete railing. To Archie, it was just another place to explore beside the person he loved most. He had no idea that one careless moment could change his life.
When his owner went downstairs to get something and left the rooftop door slightly open, Archie stayed behind alone. He wandered near the plant pots by the railing. Just then, a small bird flew past. Curious, Archie lifted his head to watch it, then climbed onto a low plant pot to see better.
But the pot suddenly tilted.
His paws slipped.
And in a single terrifying second, Archie fell from the second floor onto the concrete yard below.
The loud impact sent the whole family rushing outside. Archie was lying on his side, breathing fast and weakly. He could still hear his owner calling his name, and he tried to move as if he wanted to stand, but his body hurt too much to obey. At the clinic, the examination left the family heartbroken. Archie had suffered serious injuries to his legs, hips, and spine after the fall. The doctor said he had survived, but the chance that he would walk normally again was uncertain. Those words crushed the family as they stood outside the glass door, watching Archie lying motionless on the emergency table.
After surgery, Archie woke up on a clean white bed with his back legs carefully bandaged. When he saw his owner walk in, his tail moved slightly. It was only a tiny reaction, but it was enough to make everyone cry. Archie could not run to his family like before. He could only look at them with eyes full of joy and pain, as if he did not understand why his body had changed so much.
The first days of recovery were incredibly difficult. The doctor helped Archie stand on a soft mat, but his legs trembled and quickly gave out. Every time he fell, the family’s hearts broke all over again. But Archie never truly gave up. Whenever he heard his owner call his name, he still lifted his head and looked toward the people waiting for him to stand again.
Day by day, with medicine, care, and endless patience, Archie began to show small signs of progress. A few weeks later, he practiced walking with a support sling around his body. At first, it was only one slow, shaky step. Then another. His family sat in front of him, calling his name and reaching out their hands. And Archie tried with all his strength to walk toward them.

His steps were still a little unsteady, and he could no longer run as fast as before, but his eyes were brighter and his tail wagged every time his family called his name.
