The puppy was still so small.
He was just a tiny little life, with legs that were not yet strong and steps that were still slow and clumsy. But around his neck was a short chain—heavy, cold, and far too harsh for such a fragile body.
That day, on a busy sidewalk, the puppy tried his best to keep up with the woman pulling him along. Every little step was hurried and shaky, as if he was doing everything he could not to be left behind. But his small body simply could not match the fast, impatient pace of the person holding the chain.
Then, just because he was walking too slowly, the woman suddenly yanked the chain hard.
In that moment, the puppy was lifted off the ground.

His four little legs curled up in the air. His tiny body hung helplessly from the chain, unable to touch the ground, unable to free himself. He panicked, struggling weakly, his wide eyes looking around as if begging anyone nearby to help him.
He did not understand what was happening.
He did not know why walking slowly had made him deserve such pain.
But the woman did not stop right away.
She continued carrying the puppy by the chain, moving him from one place to another. His small body hung in the middle of the street, and his frightened cries made people passing by turn their heads.
The puppy did not bite.
He did not fight back.
He had done nothing wrong.
He was simply too small to keep up with a human who had lost all patience.
The most heartbreaking part was that, in that moment, he was completely helpless. A puppy too young to protect himself was being treated like an object that could be dragged, lifted, and left hanging just because someone bigger decided to do it.
Thankfully, the scene was not ignored forever.
A few people on the street stopped. At first, they stared in shock. Then that shock quickly turned into anger. Someone immediately spoke up and demanded that the woman put the puppy down. Others stepped closer, unable to keep standing still while such a tiny life was being suspended by the very chain around his neck.
Under pressure from the people around her, the puppy was finally placed back on the ground.
But even when his paws touched the pavement again, he could not calm down. He curled up by the side of the road, his whole body trembling, his eyes still filled with fear. The chain lay beside him, silent, but painful enough for anyone to understand what he had just endured.
Because that was not how you walk a dog.
That was abuse.
A puppy does not need much. He does not need luxury. He only needs to be allowed to walk a little slower, to be treated with a little more patience, and to receive the gentleness that every small living being deserves.
There is no excuse for lifting a puppy into the air by a chain.
There is no impatience that should ever become pain for a helpless life.
That puppy did not deserve to hang in fear in the middle of the street.
He was only a baby in the body of a dog.
And what he needed most was not a chain pulled tight around his neck, but a hand gentle enough to protect him.
