A Motionless Figure Beside the Road

Drivers traveling along Route 69 in Wolcott, Connecticut, slowed down after spotting what looked like a lifeless dog lying near the side of the road.

At first, several Good Samaritans feared the worst.

The small white-and-golden dog wasn’t moving.

His fragile body appeared completely limp, and from a distance, it looked as though he had already passed away alone beside the busy roadway.

But when people carefully walked closer to check on him, they noticed something faint that changed everything.

The dog was still breathing.

Barely.

The Horrifying Discovery Hidden Beneath His Fur

The moment rescuers got a closer look at the tiny dog, they realized he was suffering far more than anyone could have imagined.

The little white-and-gold pup—later named Tony—was completely infested with ticks.

Not dozens.

Hundreds.

Rescuers eventually counted an astonishing 890 ticks attached to his tiny body.

The infestation was so severe that the insides of his ears appeared almost completely black from the sheer number of parasites feeding on him.

And that wasn’t all.

Tony also had bite wounds and puncture injuries across his body, signs that he had likely suffered through prolonged neglect and possibly attacks from other animals while trying to survive on his own.

By the time he was found, the tiny dog was dangerously anemic, physically exhausted, and emotionally broken.

Rescuers feared he was only moments away from dying.

A Four-And-A-Half-Hour Fight To Save Him

Without wasting a second, compassionate staff members from the Wolcott Dog Pound and Wolcott Police Department rushed Tony for emergency treatment.

But first came the painstaking process of removing the ticks covering nearly every inch of his body.

At Mack & Molly’s Pet Parlor, groomers worked nonstop for four and a half exhausting hours carefully extracting the parasites one by one from the tiny dog’s fragile skin.

Despite everything he had endured, Tony never lashed out.

Rescuers described him as unbelievably gentle throughout the painful process, quietly enduring the treatment as though he somehow understood these strangers were trying to save his life.

And slowly, the terrified little dog began allowing himself to trust again.

The Tiny Dog Nobody Expected To Survive

After the grooming session, Tony underwent extensive medical examinations, bloodwork, and emergency care.

Veterinarians confirmed he was severely anemic from the massive blood loss caused by the ticks, though rescuers were relieved to learn he tested negative for Lyme disease.

He remains on antibiotics while doctors continue monitoring his condition closely.

But even after everything his body has suffered through, there is one thing Tony still refuses to lose:

His spirit.

A Tail That Never Stops Wagging

Those caring for Tony say the tiny white-and-golden dog has already begun stealing hearts everywhere he goes.

Despite being abandoned, nearly drained of life, and left suffering alone on the roadside, Tony still greets people with a wagging tail and gentle eyes full of hope.

Rescuers say it’s impossible not to fall in love with him.

Because somehow, after unimaginable pain and neglect, this little dog still chooses kindness.

And now, for the first time in a very long while, Tony finally has people fighting for him the way he always deserved.
