Alyssa Should Be Chasing Toys Under the Sun — Instead, the 4-Month-Old Puppy Is Facing Euthanasia

Alyssa Edwards is only four months old.

At her age, she should be chasing toys, learning how to walk on a leash, rolling in the grass, and discovering how wonderful life can be when someone loves you.

Instead, this tiny red and white Labrador retriever puppy is sitting in a California shelter with her time almost gone.

Alyssa arrived at the shelter as a stray on April 22. No one came to reclaim her. No one came to take her home. And now, this little puppy has been placed on the red list, scheduled for humane euthanasia on May 2, 2026.

The saddest part is that Alyssa is not a lost cause.

She is sick, but treatable.

She tested negative for Parvo, which is a relief. She did test positive for Giardia, a common intestinal parasite that can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and weight loss. It can make a puppy feel miserable, weak, and scared — especially in a loud, stressful shelter environment.

But Giardia is treatable with medication and proper care.

According to shelter notes, Alyssa is already receiving treatment. And even after everything she is facing, she is still described as bright, alert, and playful.

That means there is still a happy puppy inside her.

A puppy who wants to live.

A puppy who still has hope.

But she needs someone to step in quickly.

Alyssa does not need a miracle beyond reach. She needs a safe place to recover, someone patient enough to care for her, and a chance to grow into the loving companion she was meant to become.

Right now, she is just a baby in danger.

She should not be spending her final hours behind kennel bars. She should be in someone’s arms, being comforted, protected, and told that her life matters.

Please share Alyssa’s story with rescue groups, friends, family, and anyone who may be able to help.

Time is heartbreakingly short.

Alyssa Edwards is only four months old.

She should be learning how to live — not waiting to lose her chance.
