Penelope’s first shelter photo is hard to look at.

By the time help finally reached her, a serious hookworm infestation had already drained her strength from the inside.

Her recovery will take time. Good meals will have to rebuild what neglect took. Treatment will have to fight what was left untreated for too long. Love will have to teach her that people can stay.
But Penelope is still here.
