A Dog Left With Nothing
Stanford’s story began in heartbreak.
The adult pit bull mix was found abandoned in a local park, left without food, water, or anyone to protect him. He was alone in a place where no dog should have been left to survive on his own.
A kind family found him and brought him to the Rockdale County Animal Shelter, giving him the first bit of safety he had known in a while.
For Stanford, it must have felt like someone had finally seen him.
Hope Came Close, Then Disappeared
The same family who found Stanford soon grew attached to him.
They saw his gentle nature, his sweet eyes, and the way he seemed to want nothing more than to be loved. For a moment, it looked as if Stanford’s painful chapter might end quickly. The family wanted to adopt him, and Stanford seemed ready to give his whole heart to them.
But their rental property did not allow them to keep him.
Just like that, the home he had almost touched slipped away.
Stanford was safe, but he was still alone.

With support from the community, HAAU raised funds and secured a foster placement for Stanford. It was not his final destination, but it was enough to get him out of the kennel and into a place where healing could begin.
When Stanford finally left the shelter, his tail wagged as if he understood that something better was waiting.
A Soft Bed, Gentle Hands, and a New Start
In foster care, Stanford began to change.
He had a soft bed instead of a kennel floor. He had people who spoke to him gently, walked him, comforted him, and gave him space to feel safe again.
The dog who once looked so heartbroken through the bars began to relax. His body softened. His trust slowly returned. The sadness in his eyes gave way to small moments of peace.
Every cuddle, every walk, and every quiet evening reminded him that he was no longer waiting alone.
Still Waiting for Forever
Stanford’s foster home gave him comfort, but his real dream is still a permanent family.
