The Abused Dog Tried to Escape Through an Iron Fence — But His Owner Found Him

Before he tried to escape, the little dog had lived in fear for a long time.

He was kept in the backyard of an old house, where the ground was always cold and damp, and his food bowl was often empty. Every time his owner stepped outside, he no longer dared to run over happily like other dogs.

He only lowered his head.

Curled his body.

And pressed himself against the corner of the wall.

Because many times before, whenever he barked from hunger, the man would shout and kick him hard. One day, when he knocked over his water bowl, the man grabbed him by the back of the neck and dragged him across the yard. Another time, when he tried to come closer to beg for food, the man snapped a leather strap against the ground right beside him, frightening him so badly that he dropped flat and did not dare to move.

Over time, the dog learned to stay silent.

Hungry, but silent.

In pain, but silent.

Terrified, but silent.

That night, it began to rain.

Water flowed across the backyard, turning the ground muddy and slippery. Strong wind made the old iron fence at the far end of the yard rattle. In the darkness, the little dog saw a small gap between two bent iron bars.

The gap was very small.

But to him, it was a chance to live.

He slowly stood up. His aching body made every step difficult. As he walked, he kept looking back at the house behind him, his ears raised, listening carefully. There was no sound of the door. No footsteps.

He began to squeeze his body through the fence.

The cold iron rubbed against his wet fur. His shoulder got stuck. He forced his thin body forward little by little. Each time the metal touched an old wound, he trembled from pain, but he did not stop.

Because behind him was the cold yard.

The kicks.

The times he had been dragged.

The hungry nights and the beatings just because he dared to beg for food.

Finally, his two front paws touched the muddy road outside.

Just a little more.

One more strong push, and he would be free.

But at that exact moment, the back door flew open.

Yellow light poured straight into the yard.

“You dog!”

The little dog jolted in fear.

His owner had found him.

In panic, he tried to pull the rest of his body through the iron gap. But because he was rushing, one of his legs got stuck. He struggled, his claws scraping through the mud, shaking the fence violently.

Footsteps rushed toward him from behind.

Fast.

Heavy.

Then the man’s hand grabbed the back of his neck.

He yanked hard.

The little body was dragged backward through the iron fence. The metal scraped against his belly and legs. He cried out in pain, his front paws desperately trying to cling to the ground outside, but the hope he had just touched was torn away from him.

The owner became even more furious because he had dared to run.

He dragged the dog back into the middle of the yard, letting his body slide across the wet ground. When the dog tried to crawl up, the man stomped beside him, making him collapse flat in fear immediately.

Then the man took a rope, tied it around the dog’s neck, and pulled him toward the iron post in the corner of the yard.

This time, he was chained.

The rope was tightened and tied so short that he could barely move.

He could not avoid the rain.

He could not lie down comfortably.

Whenever he tried to shift to one side, the rope tightened around his neck and stopped him with pain.

But it did not end there.

The man picked up a wooden stick leaning near the door and struck it hard against the ground in front of him. The dry sound of the stick hitting the yard made the little dog tremble violently. He immediately lowered his head, covering his face with his front paws, as if he had become too used to protecting himself whenever his owner became angry.

The man shouted that he had “dared to escape.”

That next time, he would not get another chance.

Then he left him in the rain, chained close to the post, beside an empty bowl.

The little dog lay still on the cold ground.

His whole body trembled.

Not only because of the rain.

But because he understood that after his failed escape, this place had become even more frightening than before.

Only a few minutes earlier, he had been so close to freedom.

His two front paws had touched the road outside.

He had believed he could run away from the kicks, the times he had been dragged, the hungry cold nights, and the angry shouts that made him freeze.

But then he was pulled back.

Chained tighter.

Threatened more.

Turned into a life that no longer dared to hope.

After that night, the dog no longer looked toward the fence the way he used to.

He no longer tried to bite the rope.

He no longer stood up when he heard people passing outside.

He only lay still in the corner of the yard, his eyes half open, sometimes looking toward the gap in the fence that had once been his only way out.

The most heartbreaking part was not only the wounds on his body.

It was that he had once believed he was about to escape that nightmare.

Then the same hand that had hurt him dragged him back, even more cruelly than before.

A dog cannot say that he is in pain.

He cannot explain that he only wants to live.

He cannot beg with words, “Please don’t hurt me anymore.”

He can only tremble in the rain, looking through the iron fence with tired, hopeless eyes, waiting for the day someone truly sees him.

Not to force him back.

But to take him away from that place forever.
