No one knew where Finn was trying to go when he stepped onto that road.
Maybe he was looking for his way home.
Maybe he had seen someone familiar on the other side.
Or maybe he was just a small, hungry dog wandering through traffic, confused and alone.
Finn ran into the street too quickly.
In only a few seconds, the sound of an approaching car filled the air. Then came the sharp screech of brakes. The impact happened before the little dog could understand what was coming.
Finn’s small body fell onto the cold pavement.
He lay on his side, his legs no longer moving. Beside his head, a small bloodstain spread across the concrete. His ears were still lifted, as if he was still listening, but his curled tail lay still behind him.
The most heartbreaking part was how tiny he looked on that wide, empty road.
Cars continued to pass. Some people may have seen him. A few may have slowed down or looked back. But Finn remained there, motionless and alone.
He had only been trying to cross the street.
But one sudden moment took everything from him.
When someone finally came to help, they knelt beside him and softly called his name, hoping for a breath, a blink, any tiny sign that he was still fighting to stay alive.
But the road had already gone quiet.
Finn never got to be wrapped in a warm blanket. He never got to be carried somewhere safe. He never got another chance to be loved the way he deserved.
He was just a little dog who needed protection, a safe place to sleep, and someone to care enough to keep him away from danger.
Instead, his story ended on the pavement, after one crossing he never made it across.
Rest in peace, sweet Finn.
May people slow down, look more carefully, and be kinder to the small lives that cannot protect themselves in a world that moves too fast.
