A cat owner could not stop laughing after her six-month-old kitten, Jijibells, suddenly began limping for a reason far less serious than it first appeared.
In a viral Instagram clip shared by Fairfield County resident April Russell, Jijibells is seen stepping near a sink before dramatically lifting one paw. For a moment, it looks as if something might be wrong. But then the truth becomes clear: the kitten had simply touched water.
Her reaction was so dramatic that the video quickly captured attention online, gaining more than 1.1 million views. Cat owners immediately recognized the behavior, with many joking that Jijibells reacted the way anyone would after stepping in a wet sock.
Russell told Newsweek that Jijibells is about six months old and behaves like this often, especially around water. She said she rarely posts videos on Instagram and expected only a few friends to see it, making the viral response completely unexpected.
Jijibells joined the family just before the holidays after Russell’s 18-year-old daughter found her on Craigslist. Since then, the kitten has become a sweet and entertaining part of the household. Although the family has four other cats, Jijibells has already made her personality clear.
According to Russell, Jijibells is especially close to her “big brother,” a cat named Small Boy. She is also fascinated by the sink, which explains how the funny moment happened in the first place.
The video resonated with viewers because it showed the kind of everyday drama many cat owners know well. One small splash, one wet paw, and suddenly Jijibells acted as though she had suffered a terrible injury.
Commenters quickly filled the post with jokes and sympathy for the tiny “victim.” Some called her a queen, while others said their own cats react the exact same way.
Despite her sudden online fame, Russell said Jijibells has not changed. She still loves the sink, still reacts dramatically to water, and still fills the house with the kind of small, funny moments that make pets unforgettable.
Jijibells was not truly hurt.
But for one dramatic kitten, a wet paw was apparently enough to stop the world.
