Today was Luno’s birthday.
But the room stayed silent.
There was no birthday cake. No candle. No song. No gentle hand resting on his head, whispering, “Happy birthday, sweet boy.”
There was only Luno, sitting alone in a small corner, his body weak, his skin bare from sickness, his tired eyes looking forward as if he was waiting for something that might never come.
He did not understand birthdays.
He only knew that today felt like every other day.
The cold floor beneath him. The burning itch on his skin. The heavy body that made even sitting still feel exhausting. The silence that stretched around him until it almost felt like pain.
Maybe Luno once had a home.
Maybe he once had soft fur. Maybe he once ran happily when someone called his name. Maybe he once believed that when he was sick, someone would hold him closer, not forget him.
But then his illness came.
His fur began to fall out. His body changed. He no longer looked like the healthy dog he used to be. And instead of receiving more love, more care, and more help, he was slowly forgotten.
The saddest part was not that Luno was sick.
It was that he had to be sick alone.
On his birthday, Luno did not need a big gift. He did not need a party. He only needed one small wish, one kind look, one reminder that he was still here — and still worthy of love.
His eyes seemed to ask:
“No one wishes me happy birthday… because I am very sick?”
But Luno, you do not deserve to be forgotten.
You are not less lovable because your body is weak.
You are not worth less because your fur is gone.
You are still a life that feels pain, fear, loneliness, and hope.
So today, if the world has forgotten Luno’s birthday, let us not forget him.
Please leave a birthday wish for this sick little soul.
Even one small message could make his lonely birthday feel a little less silent.
Happy birthday, Luno.
May you heal.
May you be loved the way you deserve.
And may this be the last birthday you ever spend feeling alone.
