The Seven-Week-Old Puppy Fighting to Stay Alive
When Luna first arrived at the shelter, staff members could hardly believe she was still alive.
The tiny pit bull mix was only seven weeks old, yet her small body had already suffered catastrophic injuries no puppy should ever endure.
Her skull was fractured.
Her jaw was broken.
Even her nose had been crushed.

Because of how severe her injuries were, shelter workers believed there was almost no chance she would survive.

Mary Pryor, co-founder of the rescue organization Cage to Couch in California, immediately felt drawn to the injured puppy.

Every meal was difficult because her shattered jaw made chewing almost impossible.
Food spilled everywhere whenever she tried eating.
Her damaged nasal cavity caused constant infections and breathing issues.
And because her tiny body had already endured so much trauma, even simple recovery became an exhausting battle.
Still, Luna kept fighting.
The Puppy Who Refused to Give Up
During her first months in rescue care, Luna required nonstop medical attention.
She attended frequent veterinary appointments while spending most of her time confined safely inside a playpen so her injuries could slowly heal.
Because her recovery delayed vaccinations, Luna couldn’t safely go outside or interact with the other dogs in the home for quite some time.
Yet despite all the pain, discomfort, and limitations she faced, Luna’s spirit never faded.
In fact, as soon as she started feeling even slightly stronger, her playful personality exploded.
“She became a wild little thing,” Mary later joked lovingly.
The broken puppy who once struggled simply to survive suddenly wanted to play, explore, cuddle, and love everyone around her.
A Dog Who Never Realized She Was Different
Even today, Luna still faces lifelong medical challenges because of her injuries.
Her crushed nasal passages leave her vulnerable to frequent infections.
She struggles with heat.
She needs her nose wiped often.
And because of the way her jaw healed, eating can still be messy and difficult.
But perhaps the most incredible part of Luna’s story is this:
She has absolutely no idea she’s different from any other dog.

She adores humans and wants to stay close to them constantly, showering everyone around her with affection and energy.
And despite everything she survived, she grew into one of the gentlest dogs imaginable.
The Dogs Who Helped Heal Her Heart
Luna spent much of her life surrounded by other rescue dogs, including two blind senior beagles and another beagle battling cancer.
Being raised around fragile dogs helped shape Luna into an incredibly patient and compassionate companion.
Mary says Luna learned to move gently around them, always showing remarkable sensitivity despite her naturally energetic personality.
Sadly, two of the senior beagles passed away in early 2026—a loss Luna struggled deeply to understand.
Because after everything she survived herself, Luna had formed powerful emotional bonds with the animals who became her family.
The Foster Puppy Nobody Could Let Go Of
Originally, Mary only intended to foster Luna temporarily until the puppy became healthy enough for adoption.
But somewhere during the long nights, endless vet visits, and emotional recovery process, something changed.
Mary completely fell in love with her.
And eventually, the foster arrangement quietly became permanent.
Luna had already found her forever home.
The Dog Once Meant to Be Euthanized Is Now Thriving
Today, more than three years later, Luna’s transformation continues leaving people speechless online.
The puppy once considered too damaged to save is now full of confidence, personality, and joy.
She’s currently training for the Canine Good Citizen Program.
She even takes dance classes.
And her social media videos have touched hundreds of thousands of people around the world who can hardly believe she’s the same dog once lying helplessly inside a shelter.
Some people still question whether a dog with so many medical needs should have been saved.
But for Mary, the answer is simple.
Luna is happy.
She is loved.
And she wakes up every single day excited to live her life.
